Simple Enrichment in Three Easy Steps

Enrichment is such an important part of being a pet owner. It stimulates our pets’ senses, activates their brains, and improves their overall quality of life. I am constantly on the lookout for new enrichment ideas for my pets, so when I saw this one, I immediately tried it with Sasha. This is something I love doing for her just for fun, or even for feeding meals. All it requires is:

  • A JW Hol-ee roller toy
  • Strips of fabric (fleece is great, but any kind will do)
  • Treats

All you have to do is roll 1-3 treats in each strip of fabric (you can even tie them if you have a particularly advanced dog), and then put these rolls inside the toy until it is stuffed pretty full. I like to have a few small pieces of fabric poking out of the toy to give my dog something to tug on at first; it’s an especially good idea the first time you try it, to help your dog figure it out.

It’s as simple as that! Now you get to give it to your dog and enjoy watching them have fun pulling the fabric out and finding the food. See how easy it is to add enrichment to your dog’s life?

Voila! You’re done. Don’t let Sasha’s poker face fool you- she can’t wait to play with it.
